Premier League season to begin on a Friday night for first time

Sky Sports and BT Sport announce their pick of televised games for August and September, beginning with Arsenal's home meeting with Leicester City on Friday, August 11.

Arsenal and Leicester City will kick off the 2017-18 Premier League campaign in a televised Friday night clash in a first for the English top flight.

Sky Sports and BT Sport will again share coverage of the competition as part of a record-breaking TV package, starting with the Foxes' trip to North London on August 11.

The division's top six sides will all feature on Sky Sports in the opening fortnight of the campaign, while all 20 teams will have at least one match broadcast by the end of September.

Watford's home tie against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur's return to Newcastle United - the scene of a 5-1 thrashing for the Lilywhites on the final day of the 2015-16 campaign - will also be aired by the lead broadcaster on the opening weekend.

BT Sport begins its coverage with Premier League new boys Brighton & Hove Albion's hosting of Manchester City on the Saturday evening, while Arsenal vs. Stoke City and Manchester United vs. Leicester will follow to complete August's picks.

The curtain-raising fixture for the English football season will also be shown on BT Sport, as they have the rights for the all-London showdown between Arsenal and Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on August 6.
