The speedboat driven by David Beckham during the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony has failed to be sold at auction.

The boat, which carried the Olympic torch to the stadium to mark the start of the successful Games in the capital, was put up for sale by auctioneers Bonhams.

The 2008 'Torchbearer' Bladerunner BR RIB 35 was originally priced at £250,000 but the highest offer was £180,000.

"It was a very busy sale but the item was fairly highly priced and there was insufficient interest on the day," spokesman Julian Roup told the BBC. "It may sell in a post-sale deal."

The boat went up for auction at Brooklands in Weybridge.
