Former Rangers striker Nacho Novo has been taken to hospital after suffering chest pains following a Masters football tournament in Germany.

The Spaniard was turning out alongside the likes of Marvin Andrews, Jorg Alberts, Michael Mols, Lee McCulloch, Andy Goram and Derek Ferguson in Berlin.

Novo complained of feeling unwell after the game before he was rushed to hospital to see doctors.

The Daily Record quotes a friend of the 38-year-old as saying: "It was a heart attack and although, of course, they are enormously serious we hope it was relatively minor.

"Nacho had been struggling with what he felt was a chest infection, but thankfully he was in the expert hands of doctors in excellent time.

"He is recovering well and still in intensive care and it looks as if he will remain in hospital for the next week or so."

Novo scored 73 goals in 255 games for Rangers between 2004 and 2010.
