Leeds Rhinos fall to first Super League defeat of season

Warrington Wolves beat Leeds Rhinos 18-6 in their Super League clash to inflict a first defeat of the season on their opponents.

Leeds Rhinos have fallen to their first defeat of the Super League season, having been eased out 18-6 by Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium this evening.

Kevin Penny and Stefan Ratchford crossed over for the only tries of the opening 40 minutes, the latter being awarded following much deliberation from the video referees over whether the ball had been knocked on in the process of it being grounded.

Ratchford was on hand to kick over the extras on both occasions to ensure that the hosts, who were looking to pick up the win which would see them draw level with their opponents in the league table, raced further ahead.

There was to be no looking back for The Wire following the restart, either, as they added to their tally when Ryan Atkins made the most of an error from Kevin Sinfield to cross over just short of the hour mark.

Tom Briscoe did manage to round off a fine team move to give the Loiners just a glimmer of hope shortly after, but despite Sinfield kicking the extras it was not to be as they fell short for the first time this campaign.

Both sides are now locked on eight points after playing five games.
