The International Rugby Board have an appeal against Australia captain James Horwill turned down, clearing him to play against the British and Irish Lions on Saturday.

Australia captain James Horwill is free to play in this weekend's final Test against the British and Irish Lions after being cleared of a deliberate stamp on Alun Wyn Jones two weeks ago.

Horwill was cleared of intentionally kicking the Lions lock during the first Test by an independent disciplinary panel, but the International Rugby Board decided to appeal that judgement.

The appeal was heard earlier today by judicial officer Graeme Mew, but he chose to turn it down after agreeing with Nigel Hampton's initial verdict of accidental contact based on a lack of evidence.

The Wallabies captain is therefore permitted to take the field in Saturday's deciding Test against Warren Gatland's Lions, with the series finely poised at 1-1.
