IRB announces plans to appeal against the ruling to clear Australia captain James Horwill of stamping.

The International Rugby Board has announced that it will appeal against the decision to clear Australia captain James Horwill of stamping.

The 28-year-old was cited for an alleged deliberate stamp on the head of British and Irish Lions lock Alun Wyn Jones during the Wallabies' first Test defeat in Brisbane.

While it had been suggested that the Australia captain will miss the remaining two Tests of the series, Horwill was cleared as there was not enough evidence to suggest that he had acted in malice.

Following the ruling, the governing body has decided to appeal against the clearance by stating: "The appeal will be heard by Graeme Mew (Canada) following the second Test between Australia and the British & Irish Lions. Horwill is free to play pending the outcome of the appeal."

Australia head coach Robbie Deans has made just two changes to the side that lost to the Lions last week.
