Northampton Saints win Challenge Cup

Northampton Saints win the Amlin Challenge Cup following a 30-16 win over Bath Rugby.

Northampton Saints overturned a first-half deficit to beat Bath Rugby 30-16 in the final of the Amlin Challenge Cup at Cardiff Arms Park this evening.

George Ford kicked a pair of penalties inside the opening 15 minutes as Bath claimed an early lead before Anthony Wilson sprinted to the line for the opening try.

Saints were still in the match at the break though, as Stephen Myler split the posts twice himself, leaving Northampton just seven points down at half time.

Myler was in dominant form with the boot in the second half, splitting the uprights four times in 16 minutes to give the Saints the lead for the first time.

Northampton continued to press as they looked to extend their lead, and were able to do so with 10 minutes to play when Phil Dowson got the ball down following a driving maul.

Any hopes of a late Bath comeback were dashed five minutes later when Ben Foden dived over to put the victory beyond doubt, ensuring that the Saints would lift the trophy.
