Geoff Parling is likely to start against Australia on Saturday after being withdrawn from the British and Irish Lions' match with Melbourne Rebels on Tuesday.

British and Irish Lions lock Geoff Parling has been withdrawn from the side to face the Melbourne Rebels on Tuesday.

The Leicester Tigers man was ready to captain the tourists in the friendly clash at AAMI Park, but has since been removed from the side following the news that Paul O'Connell has been ruled out of the remainder of the series with Australia.

Parling is now expected to go straight into the starting lineup for the Lions' second Test against the Wallabies at the weekend and will not be risked against the Rebels as a result.

Wales international Dan Lydiate will now skipper Warren Gatland's side for the match, while Ian Evans replaces Parling in the team.

Tom Croft fills the vacancy left on the bench by Evans.
