Marcus Watson to take things "game by game" in Glasgow

England Rugby Sevens Star Marcus Watson is focused on taking things "game by game" during this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

England Rugby Sevens star Marcus Watson has insisted that his side will not look too far ahead when taking part in this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

England will begin their campaign with matches against unknown quantities Sri Lanka and Uganda before facing Australia in their final game on day one in what is expected to be the Group D decider.

While acknowledging that the gold medal is the team's ultimate objective, Watson was eager to focus more on improving with every match that they play.

"I think everyone that is going there to compete is going to be going for gold, and we'll be no different. We're obviously going there to win every game," he told Sports Mole.

"It's a bit cliche but we've said we're just going to take it game by game and hopefully that will lead us towards a gold medal. Day one is always just about getting into day two. Hopefully we'll improve each game, so the first two games we'd look to improve on and then the third game hopefully we'd do the same.

"We'd obviously like to win against Australia, but our main focus will be just taking it game by game and improving and giving ourselves a good quarter-final place in day two."

England missed out on the medals in the 2010 Delhi Games having finished fourth, with their best performance at the Commonwealths coming four years earlier in Melbourne, where they picked up silver.
