Nick Easter replaces injured Billy Vunipola in England squad

England No.8 Billy Vunipola is ruled out of the remainder of the Rugby World Cup with a knee injury, with Nick Easter taking his place in the Red Rose squad.

Nick Easter has been called up to England's Rugby World Cup squad to replace the injured Billy Vunipola.

The Saracens number eight has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament with a knee ligament injury sustained in the weekend defeat to Wales.

Fifty-two cap Easter played a part in both of England's last two World Cup campaigns, and has now joined up with the Red Rose squad ahead of next Saturday's must-win Pool A clash against Australia.

"It's so unfortunate for Billy but the scan shows an injury which means he can't take any further part in the World Cup," head coach Stuart Lancaster told England Rugby.

"He has worked really hard and committed everything to the last three months but he is a young man with a bright future ahead of him and I know he will be an integral part of this team for years to come.

"Nick was unlucky to miss out on final selection. He is a specialist No.8 and an experienced player. We know he will make a big contribution."

England's defeat to Wales at Twickenham leaves their World Cup hopes hanging by a thread, meaning that a positive result is required against the Wallabies next time out.
