Exeter Chiefs beat Newcastle Falcons to set up a European Challenge Cup Semi-Final with Gloucester.

Exeter Chiefs set up a European Challenge Cup semi-final with Gloucester Rugby by beating Newcastle Falcons 48-13 at Sandy Park.

The Devon outfit managed to take the lead on 12 minutes as Dave Ewers barged over the try line following a scrum.

Midway through the half, Newcastle fell further behind when they conceded a penalty try following a charge down and block by Alex Tait, an offence for which he received 10 minutes in the sin-bin.

The Falcons got on the scoreboard with two penalties late in the half as the visitors reached the break 17-6 down.

However, Exeter increased their lead within seconds of the restart when England back row Thomas Waldrom powered over.

Henry Slade added another penalty on 54 minutes to leave Newcastle needing three converted tried to get back into the game, before Byron McGuigan sealed the Chiefs' passage into the last four.

Chris Harris touched down for Newcastle with 14 minutes left, but late tries from Sam Hill and Dean Mumm capped off an emphatic victory for the Devon side.
