Gloucester edge out Exeter Chiefs

Gloucester edge to a 26-25 win over Exeter Chiefs in the Aviva Premiership in a closely-fought match.

Gloucester Rugby have beaten Exeter Chiefs by a single point after holding on for a 26-25 win in the Aviva Premiership this afternoon.

Chances were scarce in a cagey first half, but it was the visitors who were ahead at the break following two penalties from Greig Laidlaw.

The home side hit back early in the second half as Jack Nowell and Matt Jess both crossed the try line less than two minutes apart to put Exeter ahead.

The lead was short-lived as Tom Savage charged down a Laidlaw chip forward to score Gloucester's first try of the afternoon.

Gareth Steenson briefly edged the Chiefs back ahead after kicking two penalties in quick succession, but Ben Morgan powered over from close range with just over 10 minutes to play.

Thomas Waldrom cut the lead to a point when he held off a tackle to go over late on, but Steenson's conversion, which would have put Exeter back in front, struck the post, condemning the hosts to defeat.
