Owen Williams pens new Leicester Tigers deal

Leicester Tigers fly-half Owen Williams pens a new contract with the Aviva Premiership club.

Leicester Tigers have confirmed that fly-half Owen Williams has signed a new deal with the club.

The 22-year-old had recently been linked with a return to his native Wales with former employers Scarlets.

The Tigers have refused to confirm the length of Williams's contract extension, but director of rugby Richard Cockerill is glad that the youngster has committed his future to the side.

"Owen has done an excellent job for us since he came here 18 months ago, and I'm delighted that he wants to stay in the longer term and has now agreed a new contract," he told the club's official website.

"He has settled very well here and has gained experience of some massive occasions with Tigers both in Aviva Premiership and in Europe during the last two seasons.

"Owen has shown a great attitude to his work, and he is learning and developing his game all the time in a very tough environment, which says a lot about him."

Williams joined Leicester from Scarlets ahead of the 2013-14 season.
