New Zealand have been crowned World Cup Sevens champions for the first time since 2001.

The Kiwis beat England 33-0 in the Sunday's final in Moscow.

Tim Mikkelson scored two tries, while Tomasi Cama, Waisake Naholo and Gillies Kaka also touched down at a rainy Luzhniki Stadium.

"It's been a long time between drinks," New Zealand coach Gordon Tietjens told reporters.

"It was an outstanding performance in these conditions. They stuck to their game plan and played with heart out there."

New Zealand reached the final by beating defending champions Wales in the quarter-finals before overcoming Fiji 17-0 in the last four.
