Newcastle Falcons have stretched their lead at the top of Pool 2 in the Amlin Challenge Cup with a 6-3 win against Toulon at Kingston Park.
In an uninspired opening half, the hosts could have taken the lead through Jimmy Gopperth's penalty on 34 minutes. However, the blustery conditions in the North East saw the ball drift wide as the sides went in scoreless.
Gopperth was successful with his second kick of the night when he found the posts on 46 minutes.
The fly-half extended Newcastle's lead three minutes later when he landed a huge kick from just inside the Toulon half.
The French team reduced the deficit soon after when Julien Dumora kicked his own penalty.
Despite small bursts of Toulon pressure in the last ten minutes, the difficult conditions played their part in a drab match.
