Rob Howley hopes that Wales's win over France in the Six Nations will give the side confidence for the rest of the championship.

Rob Howley has described yesterday as a "pretty special day" for Wales, following their 16-6 win over France in the Six Nations.

A try from George North late in the game put the 2012 Grand Slam winners ahead, before a Leigh Halfpenny penalty sealed the victory two minutes later.

The interim coach told Sky Sports News: "It is a pretty special day for the Wales team. We kept on saying we hadn't become a bad team overnight. Fine margins are the difference in Test match rugby.

"The players showed character and our defence put France under a lot of pressure. The players deserve all the accolades.

"The belief and confidence you can get from a result like this is so important, and we can take that with us to Italy now."

The win ends a run of eight consecutive losses for the Welsh team.
