Team England swimmer Jay Lelliott has insisted that he was hoping for a better display at the Commonwealth Games, despite setting a personal best time.
The 19-year-old knocked one second off his previous best in the 1,500m freestyle heats earlier today to claim a place in the Commonwealth Games final.
"I knew I was in good shape as I did a three-second PB in the 4x200m relay on Sunday, the Bournemouth Echo quotes Lelliott as saying. "Although 15:11 was a PB, I was hoping to do a better time.
"I had some big guys next to me and I think I didn't focus on my race as well as I should have done. But I'm really enjoying the Games. The atmosphere is absolutely incredible."
Lelliott had to undergo two operations on a recurrent brain tumour when he was 12 years old.
