Adam Peaty 'never expected' to set new Commonwealth record in 50m breaststroke

Adam Peaty says that he never expected to set a new Commonwealth record in this morning's 50m breaststroke heat.

England's Adam Peaty has admitted that he never expected to swim a new Commonwealth record in the 50m breaststroke heat this morning.

The 19-year-old, who won gold in last night's 100m breaststroke, finished this morning's heat in 27 seconds.

"It was a good heat, I didn't really expect to swim that fast this morning," Peaty told reporters. "I just went out there, enjoyed it after last night and just tried to keep my cool. The training that I've done already is just coming in naturally now."

The previous record of 27.18 seconds was held by Cameron van der Burgh.
