Adam Peaty has expressed his gratitude towards mentor Rebecca Adlington after she congratulated the England swimmer on securing his first Commonwealth Games gold medal.
The 19-year-old stormed to victory in the 100m breaststroke final in Glasgow this evening, beating second-placed Cameron van der Burgh and 200m gold medallist Ross Murdoch, who collected bronze.
Former swimmer Adlington, who shed tears during a broadcast for BBC Sport after watching Peaty win gold, personally congratulated the Brit with a hug during his lap of honour.
"She's my mentor, so she provides things that I need to know before my race and how to approach certain areas of the race," Peaty told Sports Mole.
"She's been a great support - she sends me a few good luck messages, which really helps and the support is great from her."
Peaty also broke the Commonwealth Games record by winning the race in 58.94 seconds.
