Elizabeth Simmonds: 'It's been a learning curve'

England swimmer Elizabeth Simmonds admits that she has been on a "massive learning curve" during the Commonwealth Games.

England swimmer Elizabeth Simmonds has said that competing at the Commonwealth Games has been a "massive learning curve".

The 23-year-old narrowly missed out on a medal in the 200m backstroke last night, having picked up silver in the same event in Delhi four years ago.

"Coming fourth, as I've said before, is not the best place to finish but I think it's been a massive learning curve," Hull Daily Mail quotes Simmonds as saying.

"To be back, to be nervous again on the international stage, is a major thing for me, it's great to be here.

"I am disappointed not to have swum faster than that and not to be in the medals, but that was a world-class field."

Simmonds also finished fifth in the 100m backstroke earlier in the games.
