Elizabeth Simmonds to switch focus to European Championships after Glasgow

Team England's Elizabeth Simmonds tells Sports Mole that she will jump back into training for the European Championships after Glasgow 2014.

Team England's Elizabeth Simmonds has claimed that she will head almost straight back into training for the European Aquatics Championships after the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The 23-year-old failed to medal in both the 100m and 200m backstroke finals at Tollcross, but has reached the semi-finals of the 50m after coming third in this morning's heat in a time of 29 seconds.

While Simmonds will have a few days to herself, the Beverley-born swimmer is planning to jump into training for the European Championships, which get underway in Berlin on August 13.

"We head straight back after [Tuesday]," Simmonds told Sports Mole. "I think we get a couple of days off and then we'll be back into training for a couple of weeks before the Europeans.

"I think I would probably only have time off if I wasn't doing those. I'll have a couple of days just to come down mentally, but then back into training."

England have so far won 19 medals in the pool.
