Chris Walker-Hebborn awarded silver medal after Russian swimmer banned

Great Britain's Chris Walker-Hebborn is awarded a silver medal after Russian swimmer Vitaly Melnikov was given a two-year ban for doping.

Great Britain's Chris Walker-Hebborn has been awarded with a silver medal after Russian swimmer Vitaly Melnikov was banned for doping.

The 24-year-old had shared bronze with France's Camille Lacourt in the 100m backstroke event at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in December 2013.

However, after Melnikov tested positive for banned substance EPO, Walker-Hebborn and Lacourt have been bumped up to the silver medal position.

The Brit tweeted: "A year and a half later, I go from bronze to silver. Not the same getting it now... #drugfreesport? #Russia."

The Russian swimmer has been issued with a two-year ban and has had his 100m backstroke silver medal and relay golds taken from him.
