Great Britain's Ellie Simmonds has broken the world and Paralympic record in the women's SM6 200m individual medley heat.

The Brit, who has dwarfism, launched into tonight's final after an impressive surge on the freestyle leg, despite sitting second for 150m of the race.

Ukraine's Oksana Khrul, who does not have the use of her arms, took an early lead in the heat but slipped back towards the fourth length, where she used the flitter kick to finish the race.

Simmonds, who won gold in the S6 400m freestyle, finished the heat in a record time of 3:06.97.
