Fran Halsall through to 50m freestyle semi-finals

Great Britain's Fran Halsall is through to the semi-finals in the 50m freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in Kazan.

Great Britain's Fran Halsall has progressed to the semi-finals in the 50m freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in Russia.

The Commonwealth champion finished second in her heat with the eighth-fastest time overall, securing a spot in this evening's semis.

However, teammate Lauren Quigley did not go through, finishing 28th overall to miss out on a place in the top 16 by 0.35 seconds.

Australia's Cate Campbell, who won bronze in the 100m freestyle, was the fastest in the heats with a time of 24.40s, just 0.03 seconds faster than Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace of the Bahamas.
