Aaron Cook: 'I've let Moldova down'

Former Team GB competitor Aaron Cook believes that he has 'let down' Moldova following his shock early exit from the men's -80kg taekwondo event at the European Games.

Aaron Cook has claimed that failing to advance through in the men's -80kg taekwondo event at Baku 2015 has left him feeling as though he has let his country down.

The 24-year-old is representing the Republic of Moldova at the European Games, having switched allegiance from Great Britain earlier this year.

World number one Cook was among the favourites to win gold in his particular weight category, but he was stunned by Portugal's Julio Ferreira earlier today to spell an early exit from the competition.

"I feel like I've let [Moldova] down today and that's why I'm very disappointed with myself," he told reporters. "I came here for the gold medal and I always come to every competition expecting the gold medal."

Cook also took time out to speak to Sports Mole following his 8-7 golden point defeat, which can be viewed in full right here.
