Eugenie Bouchard: 'Improved confidence important'

Eugenie Bouchard reveals that an improvement in her confidence has helped to inspire her form at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Eugenie Bouchard has revealed that increased self-belief has been integral to her current run of form at the Australian Open.

Bouchard is through to the quarter-final stage after defeating Irina-Camelia Begu to set up a last-eight showdown with Maria Sharapova.

"I think I just have that inner belief," said Bouchard, according to BT Sport.

"I really have that confidence even if it's not going well, just like in my previous round.

"I was able to stay calm and I know I have another gear to go to and I still have a good chance if I just keep fighting and keep trying."

Bouchard has also suggested that a stern chat with herself during a toilet break helped to inspire her win over Begu.
