Marion Bartoli defeats Jelena Dokic in straight sets

Marion Bartoli reaches the third round of the Australian Open after a 6-3 6-2 win over Jelena Dokic.

Marion Bartoli has comfortably defeated Jelena Dokic 6-3 6-2 to reach the third round of the Australian Open.

The competitors were equal in the opening stages of the first set until Bartoli snatched the first break of serve and went on to take the lead by claiming the first set.

The French pro continued her dominance by taking the advantage and breaking the serve of her 28-year-old opponent in the second set, taking her 3-1 up with victory in sight.

Bartoli faced a brief scare midway through the second set as Dokic came close to the break but the 27-year-old managed to withstand the pressure and clinch the game, which led to the win.

The number nine seed will play Jie Zheng in the third round of the tournament.
