Carla Suarez Navarro has advanced to the second round of the Australian Open courtesy of a 6-4 6-4 victory over Sara Errani.
The Spaniard dispatched the seventh seed in one hour and 29 minutes on the Margaret Court Arena.
Suarez Navarro broke three times in clinching the first set, although the Italian was not without her opportunities, as she also broke twice.
Errani was struggling to hold serve, despite landing 91% of her first serves in court, and Navarro set up seven break-point chances in the second set.
The 24-year-old took five of them to seal her place in the next round, where she will play the winner between Yulia Putintseva and Christina McHale.
