The world number one recorded a 7-6(5) 6-4 6-2 victory in the Rod Laver Arena and will now face Stanislas Wawrinka for a place in Sunday's showpiece.

The first set went with serve throughout, although Djokovic's was rarely put under pressure and the Serbian had four break points himself.

Raonic clung on to force a tie-break and then denied Djokovic two set points, but a wild forehand from the Canadian eventually gifted the top seed the opener.

The four-time champion strengthened his position in the contest by breaking big-serving Raonic early in the second, and he would emphatically hold on to this advantage as he dropped just two points on serve on his way to going two sets up.

He was equally dominant in the third and also broke Raonic twice in succession to open up a 5-1 lead, which he converted into a three-set victory in two hours and three minutes on his second match point.

Wawrinka beat Djokovic in last year's quarter-finals, on his way to winning the Grand Slam in Melbourne.
