Katie Swan misses out in girls' singles final

Great Britain's Katie Swan misses out in her bid to become the Australian Open girls' singles champion after losing to Tereza Mihalikova.

Great Britain's Katie Swan has been defeated in the Australian Open girls' singles final, suffering a straight-sets defeat at the hands of Tereza Mihalikova.

The 15-year-old had enjoyed a remarkable run to the final in Melbourne, beating the first, fifth and 11th seeds on the way to a meeting with the Slovakian.

However, she couldn't continue that form in the final where she soon fell 5-0 behind in the opening set before eventually losing it 6-1.

Swan hit back for a 3-0 advantage in the second, but following a medical timeout for a groin problem, she couldn't maintain her momentum after the restart as Mihalikova ran out a 6-4 victor.

The Bristol-born player's performance equals the achievement of Laura Robson, who also reached the final in 2009 and 2010.
