Great Britain captain Leon Smith hails "special" victory for Kyle Edmund

Great Britain's Davis Cup captain Leon Smith believes that Kyle Edmund's emphatic win over Janko Tipsarevic is proof that the youngster is getting "better and better".

Captain Leon Smith has heaped praise on Kyle Edmund following his comfortable win over Dusan Lajovic that helped send Great Britain into the semi-finals of the Davis Cup.

The British number two followed up his opening rubber win against Janko Tipsarevic on Friday with a similarly emphatic triumph two days on.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the 6-3 6-4 7-6(5) victory over Serbia, Smith was quick to hail the performance of Edmund on what he describes as a 'special weekend' for the youngster.

"I've seen Kyle develop so much over the years," he said. "He's getting better and better and physically he's so much stronger this year. His forehand is an unbelievable shot and the way he can pull the trigger makes it such a great weapon.

"I am sure he will take a lot from going out and winning matches of this intensity. It's great for the team, they work so hard, are a close unit and for Kyle to win two rubbers, to get his first Davis Cup wins in the same weekend, is something very special indeed."

Britain will now face Argentina on home soil in September, while France will take on either the United States or Croatia in the other last-four showdown next month.
