World number one Novak Djokovic advances at the French Open at the expense of David Goffin.

Number one seed Novak Djokovic recorded a 7-6 6-4 7-5 victory over David Goffin to reach round two of the French Open this evening.

Both players looked to operate primarily from the baseline during the opening set, which resulted in the duo holding their respective service games with relative ease.

It was a similar story in the resultant tie-breaker, but Djokovic broke to take a 6-5 lead and then kept his composure to serve out for a 7-5 success.

Early in the second set, Djokovic started to dictate the rallies on a regular basis and having forced his Belgian opponent to fire wide, he converted the break point to go 2-1 in front.

Goffin responded and gained that break back when he moved towards the net, before volleying beyond the reach of Djokovic to make it 4-4. However, from 40-0 down in the next game, world number one Djokovic battled back to break again, before serving out to take the set.

Serves were once again traded during the third set, but the with scores level at 5-5 and just as he had down earlier on, Djokovic made the most of his three break points. He then overturned a 30-0 deficit to secure his spot in the next round, where he will face either Ivan Dodig or Guido Pella.
