Roger Federer claims the first Paris Masters title of his career by defeating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the the French capital this afternoon.

Former world number one Roger Federer has won the Paris Masters for the first time in his career.

The Swiss claimed the trophy after achieving a straight-sets victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the French capital this afternoon.

Federer, 30, raced through the opening set to record a 6-1 success over the Frenchman.

The next set was a closer affair, with both players holding their serves throughout.

As a result, the match headed into a tie-break, with the Swiss number one running out a 7-3 winner.

Federer won the title without dropping a set over the course of the tournament.
