Jurgen Melzer saw off the challenge of Jerzy Janowicz 6-4 7-6 at the Barcelona Open this afternoon.
Former world number eight Melzer started brightly in Spain's second city and required just one break of his Polish opponent's serve to claim the opening set in 41 minutes.
Melzer then had two opportunities to serve out for the match during the second set, but both times Janowicz battled back to break, forcing a tie-break in the process.
The breaker was relatively one-sided, though, as Melzer took control early on, before going on to record a 7-1 success.
He will now face Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in the third round.
