Tommy Haas advances at Indian Wells

Tommy Haas advances to the third round at Indian Wells courtesy of a straight-sets victory over Jeremy Chardy.

World number 12 Tommy Haas has advanced through to the third round of the Indian Wells Masters by beating Jeremy Chardy in straight sets.

The 35-year-old took a 2-1 lead in the opening set before losing the serve, but Chardy failed to trouble him and he eventually took it 6-3.

Chardy made for a tougher second set as he pushed Haas all the way, with the contest delicately posed at 4-4, but the German used his experience to edge it 6-4 to secure victory.

Elsewhere, Alejandro Falla also progressed courtesy of a narrow victory over Jerzy Janowicz.
