Venus Williams hopes to make a return to Olympic singles action at the 2016 Games following her third-round defeat to Angelique Kerber on Wednesday.

Venus Williams has revealed that she hopes to return to the Olympics for the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro following her exit from the singles competition at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

The American, who has missed a lot of tennis in the last year after being diagnosed with the autoimmune disease Sjogren's Syndrome, was knocked out in the third round by Germany's Angelique Kerber on Wednesday.

"I haven't played a lot of matches this year and I haven't played a lot of singles the last couple of months," the 32-year-old told reporters.

"It would have been helpful for me to play some more matches for sure, to be in those situations more often. It's the points here and there that make the difference. Hopefully there's 2016 for me."

Williams continues the defence of her women's doubles title with sister Serena later today when they face Italian duo Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci.
