Defending women's doubles champions Venus and Serena Williams have seen off the challenge of German duo Sabine Lisicki and Angelique Kerber in the second round of the Olympics at Wimbledon.

The Americans came storming out of the blocks and broke three times in a row to establish a 5-0 lead in the opening set.

An overwhelmed Lisicki and Kerber managed to claw one of the breaks back, but the sisters took the first set 6-2.

With both teams breaking once in the second, it was Venus and Serena who took control with a break at 5-5 before they served out the match 7-5.

They will now play second seeds Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani of Italy in the quarter-finals.
