Eugenie Bouchard withdraws from US Open singles

Eugenie Bouchard is forced to withdraw from the US Open women's singles due to a head injury.

Eugenie Bouchard has been forced to withdraw from the US Open women's singles.

The Canadian star had pulled out of women's doubles and mixed doubles after sustaining a head injury in the locker room, following her victory alongside partner Nick Kyrgios on Saturday.

Bouchard was pictured entering the Flushing Meadows complex in New York on Sunday, but appeared to be walking uncomfortably, which fuelled speculation that the 21-year-old would play no further part.

It was later revealed that Bouchard had pulled out of the competition after failing to recover from her injury in time to face Roberta Vinci in the last 16 on Sunday.

Her withdrawal means that Vinci will now play either Kristina Mladenovic or Ekaterina Makarova in the quarter-finals.
