Novak Djokovic retires from his Wimbledon quarter-final clash against Tomas Berdych through injury.

Novak Djokovic has been forced to withdraw midway through his quarter-final clash against Tomas Berdych at Wimbledon due to injury.

The Serbian headed into the contest on Court 1 in the knowledge that he would regain his world number one ranking if he won the Grand Slam following Andy Murray's defeat to Sam Querrey this afternoon.

However, after losing the first set 7-6(2) and trailing 2-0 to Berdych in the second set, the pain and discomfort in Djokovic's shoulder was too much and he was forced to retire.

Berdych now goes straight into the semi-finals and will face either seven-time champion Roger Federer or last year's finalist Milos Raonic.

The other semi-final will be between Querrey and Marin Cilic.
