World number one Novak Djokovic has described Wimbledon as a "cradle of our sport" following his first-round win over Philipp Kohlschreiber.
The eight-time Grand Slam champion began the defence of his title at SW19 with a 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory over the German on Centre Court.
After the match, the 28-year-old told BBC One: "It's great to be back. This is a cradle of our sport - it doesn't get any bigger than Wimbledon, so it's a privilege and an honour to open this year's tournament on Centre Court.
"As defending champion there is a history and tradition that is well nurtured and respected here - it really is a special feeling. Considering the match, I had a very tough opponent, who can be very tricky on all the surfaces, especially on grass. He had nothing to lose but I managed to stay composed."
Djokovic will face either Jarkko Nieminen or Lleyton Hewitt in the second round.
