Fernando Verdasco is into the second round of Wimbledon after a straight-sets victory over Jimmy Wang, winning 7-6[3] 6-4 7-5.
The 17th-seeded Spaniard was made to work hard early on, with Wang levelling Verdasco's early break to make it 5-5 before taking the first set to a tie-break. Verdasco eventually won the breaker 7-3.
Both men were poor on their own serve in the second set, with the Chinese Taipei player managing two breaks, only for Verdasco to take the set 6-4 with three of his own.
Verdasco started to show his superiority in the third set with the Spaniard 5-2 up, but Wang ensured a tighter finish than expected by winning the eighth game on his own serve after being 0-40 down before breaking Verdasco straight after.
After levelling at 5-5 Wang was finally defeated 7-5 as Verdasco broke for the match to secure a straight-sets win.
