Triathlon director unsure of Great Britain's Rio 2016 contingent

Brendan Purcell - Great Britain's triathlon performance director - admits that options are "still very open" in terms of next year's Olympic team of three.

Great Britain's triathlon performance director has revealed that the door is still open to each of Gordon Benson, Philip Graves and Thomas Bishop to earn a place in the Rio 2016 travelling party.

Benson won Team GB's first gold of the inaugural European Games earlier today in the men's triathlon at Bilgah Beach, with teammates Graves and Thomas each playing a big part in the success.

Jonathan Brownlee and Alistair Brownlee are both in the box seat to claim two of the three available spots, but Brendan Purcell is not yet sure who will join them.

"This year we're still focusing on who will be the individual athlete who qualifies," he told reporters. "It's a matter of assessing who's the next best fit. That's still very open for us.

"The athletes we select have to have a certain level of ranking so at the moment there's still a bit of work for Phil to do. But there are other options.

"There's Gordon who has shown today what he can do. Tom has also shown what he can do. We've got other athletes who might come through too."

Bishop finished the race in 16th, while Graves crossed the line in 46th place.
