Elise Christie "devastated" by penalisation in 1,000m event

Speed skater Elise Christie says that she is "devastated" following the judges' decision to disqualify her from the third successive event.

Great Britain speed skater Elise Christie has admitted that she is "devastated" by her third successive disqualification.

The 23-year-old was adjudged to have impeded a Chinese rival in the final lap of today's semi-final.

Christie was also previously stripped of her silver medal in the 500m event after being disqualified, before missing out in the 1,500m discipline.

"I'm devastated as I've spent so much time training," Christie told BBC Sport. "I hadn't even given everything yet as I was waiting for the final. I don't understand how you can penalise two people.

"They should try and have the same referee all year for consistency. I'm really trying to hold myself together right now. I thought I'd save my energy for the last few laps. I saw they went wide so I went inside, I pulled tight the next corner.

"But, honest to God, I'm pretty sure [Li Jianrou] hit me from behind. I got disqualified today for the opposite reason to what I got disqualified for in the 500m. Every single member of Team GB is astonished."

Team GB's Jon Eley also failed to advance to the final of the men's 500m event.
