Great Britain seventh in figure skating team event

Great Britain's Penny Coomes and Nick Butland finish seventh in the short programme of the figure skating team event.

Great Britain are currently in seventh place in the figure skating team event after Penny Coomes and Nick Butland finished seventh in the short programme.

The pair's score of 52.93 was considerably lower than the 61.76 which won them bronze medal at the European Championships, and Butland believes that their lift cost them marks.

"We lost some marks for an extended lift, you get six seconds and we were slightly over time," Butland told reporters after their performance.

"We have a piece of music that we lift up and put down on and I think I started the move a bit too soon.

"It's the technical score where we lost marks and we don't really know what the issues are yet. We'll go away and look at the marks, but we can see what we've done wrong now and fix them for the individual."

The top five nations after all disciplines will advance to Sunday's free skate to contest the medals.

Jenna McCorkell is Great Britain's only remaining competitor, and Team GB currently rank seventh overall.
