Squash, baseball/softball and wrestling have beaten off competition from five other sports to be in contention with gaining a place at the 2020 Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has dropped wushu, wakeboarding, roller sports, karate and sport climbing from the shortlist for the Games, which will be held in Madrid, Tokoyo or Istanbul.
"It was never going to be an easy decision," said IOC President Jacques Rogge. "But I feel my colleagues on the board made a good decision in selecting baseball/softball, squash and wrestling to be put forward."
Only one of the sports will be accepted and a decision will be made in September.
