The Cleveland Browns are attempting to sign quarterback Brian Hoyer to a contract extension, his agent confirmed on Monday.
Despite competition from rookie Johnny Manziel, Hoyer is the starter heading into training camp but is approaching the final year of his deal.
"It will be a very difficult deal to do," Joe Linta told NFL.com. "We're always open to talking with the Browns, but we're content to wait and see what happens down the road."
Browns coach Mike Pettine told reporters last month that Hoyer, who held a 3-0 record as a starter last season before suffering an ACL injury, was "securely ahead" of Manziel.
