Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has checked into rehab to confront "personal problems".
The 22-year-old started just two games last season, but there remains a lot of hope and expectation that he will become a regular starter in coming seasons.
His advisor Brad Beckworth told reporters: "Johnny knows there are areas he needs to improve on to help him be a better family member, friend and teammate. So he decided to take this step in his life during the off-season."
Coach Ray Farmer added: "We respect Johnny's initiative in this decision and will fully support him throughout this process. Johnny's privacy will be respected by us during this very important period and we hope that others will do the same."
Manziel played college football for Texas A&M.
