Josh McCown understands scepticism over Cleveland Browns move

Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown admits that he understands criticism of the club's move to sign him to a lucrative three-year contract.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown has revealed that he can understand people being sceptical over the club's move to sign him to a lucrative three-year deal.

The Browns swooped to the sign the 35-year-old due to their lack of options at the signal-caller position as Johnny Manziel is currently in rehab for personal problems, while Brian Hoyer is ready to leave the team.

However, the signing was criticised due to McCown's poor performance with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he posted a 1-10 record as the club's starter in the 2014 campaign.

McCown told Northeast Ohio Media Group. "I understand people's perceptions of me. I don't back off it or shy away from. I understand people's frustration.

"But my mindset is to come in here, grow and improve as a football player, and help this team win football games.

"When I've been able to operate in a system that's organised and been around for awhile like I did in 2013 with the Bears, I've been able to play at a high level."

McCown threw for 2,206 yards along with 11 touchdowns to 14 interceptions in the 2014 season.
