Detroit Lions inflict first 2013 loss on Chicago Bears

The Detroit Lions survive a fourth-quarter comeback from the Chicago Bears, who lose for the first time in the NFL this season.

The Chicago Bears have been beaten for the first time this season in the NFL, losing 40-32 to the Detroit Lions.

There was nothing between the two sides in the first quarter, as Robbie Gould and David Akers each kicked a field goal.

Matt Forte added the game's first touchdown, sprinting 53 yards to put the Bears ahead early in the second quarter.

However, the Lions had a dominant spell before half time, as Matthew Stafford and Reggie Bush both ran into the end zone, while the quarterback also found Calvin Johnson for a touchdown.

Detroit extended their advantage late in the third when Nick Fairley returned a fumble four yards the team's fourth touchdown of the clash.

Alshon Jeffrey gave Chicago some late hope when he hauled in a 14-yard pass from Jay Cutler, while Earl Bennett found the end zone with 47 seconds left to leave the Bears eight points down.

Knowing that a touchdown and two-point conversion would take the game to overtime, the Bears attempted an onside kick, but the Lions were able to claim the ball to seal the victory.
