Gary Kubiak: Matt Schaub "exceptional" against San Diego Chargers

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak says that quarterback Matt Schaub was exceptional in their 31-28 win over the San Diego Chargers earlier this week.

Gary Kubiak has described Matt Schaub's performance against the San Diego Chargers as "exceptional".

The quarterback completed 346 passing yards, including three touchdown passes, as the Houston Texans came from behind in the fourth quarter against the AFC West side on Monday night.

When asked about the 32-year-old's performance in the game, the head coach said: "I thought it was exceptional. He got off to a rough start, gets the ball tipped to start the game. It's such a negative play to start your football season. A lot of people could go into the tank. He kept battling.

"I think the thing I was most impressed with Matt is his extension of plays [on Monday]. I think he did a tremendous job in some tough situations, third-and-long where he found ways to extend the play and move around and give people a chance to get down the field to keep us on the field.

"When you get caught in a situation like that, especially on the road, it's tough to succeed unless your quarterback's got total control of what's going on. I was just very impressed with what he did."

The Texans won the game 31-28.
